Printers may wish to address employee discontentment

The number of workers who are unhappy in their jobs has increased, according to new research.

Printers might benefit from dealing with the issue of employee discontentment, following recent comments.

Dilys Robinson, principal research fellow at the Institute for Employment Studies, said the recession and resultant public sector budget cuts have had a significant impact on workers' morale.

She was commenting on a survey carried out by Badenoch and Clark that showed 22.8 per cent of workers are unhappy in their current job and 27 per cent would not recommend their current employer.

Ms Robinson stated staff were happy to help their employers in the early days of the recession by increasing productivity or covering vacancies, but many are now deciding enough is enough.

Many discontented workers are likely to be bound to their current role due to the economic climate and this can be damaging to businesses as "disengaged employees are likely to withdraw discretionary effort and voice their discontent to their colleagues", she explained.
