Companies using business card printers need to treat the items as more than just marketing material and ensure they help open up a line of communication that can lead to sales.
This is according to Leah Delaney, writing for Lon's Article Directory, who explained some companies do not give enough thought as to how the cards can improve their prospects.
"Unfortunately, many business owners couldn't care less about their business card," she remarked, adding they can be a "critical" part of a marketing campaign.
Recent research from Davinci Virtual revealed this is especially a problem among small and medium-sized enterprises, as many are unaware of the importance of portraying their firm in a positive light through their business cards.
Ms Delaney urged enterprises that are currently putting together a new design to send off to their business card printers to ensure the item "attracts attention, gets kept and used".
However, she explained not everyone who expresses an interest in a company's product or service is necessarily a prospect, as those who are given the card may pass it on to a colleague rather than keep it for themselves.
