Business cards still have an important role to play despite the growing popularity of the internet as a method for exchanging company information.
This is the view of Mark Evans, writing for the Globe and Mail, who explained the items are still a "corporate fixture" in the 21st century.
He explained items offered by business card printers are unlikely to "disappear any time soon" and compared them to books, stating: "Both are tangible, durable and well entrenched".
And the cards also have an advantage over digital alternatives in that they change hands during a transaction that "involves giving something to someone you have met", rather than just getting contact details off a website.
However, he urged companies or individuals using business cards to embrace the web, as a "good-looking" website can be an effective tool for providing more information about the products or services the enterprise offers.
Mr Evans's argument supports that of Brian Spindel of US form PostNet, who said business cards are "eternal staples".
